The Christmas Project

From Awful Movies Wiki

The Christmas Project is an American direct-to-video film that was released in 2016.

Four fed-up brothers join forces during Christmastime to get payback against the Hagbarts -- the meanest bullies at their middle school.

Why It Sucks

  1. Mean-spiritedness towards the characters, even Matthew Buckley. The boys are even mean-spirited towards each other.
  2. At the beginning of the movie, there are two major plot holes.
    • Simon said he lost his glasses, but there was no scene where he lost them.
    • When the boys get in trouble by their dad, what does he do? He tells them that they’re getting chickens. He doesn’t punish them. He just tells them that they’re getting chickens.
  3. When their mom gets Matthew in trouble at the Christmas fair at school, she tells him that he was supposed to boil the eggs when there was no scene that had the boys' mom telling Matthew to boil the eggs.
  4. It contains unfunny and immature gross-out humor, such as when the teacher ate cookies with toothbrushes in them.
  5. Where do the boys go to when they get grounded? The bathtub.
    • In addition, a grounding time in the bathtub is a very generic and strange idea.
  6. When the boys' ship gets wrecked, their dad tells them that they all had something to do with it and grounded them when they didn’t even do anything wrong. Sounds familiar, isn't it?
  7. Finn is an unlikable character, since he bullies Matthew, and Matthew never told his parents about how Finn is being a bully to him, and Matthew lets Finn become a Karma Houdini, despite getting presents after bullying him.
  8. The movie features an unintentionally stupid scene where the boys roll toilet paper all over John while he eats an apple.
  9. The boys’ dad is the biggest offender since he cooked Rosie to death in one scene.
  10. One scene had Matthew putting toothpaste on Finn’s cookies, which causes Finn to get blamed.
  11. In the end of the movie, when the family had the baby, in which things go right, and when Matthew and Simon go outside to sled, some teenagers bully them, causing Matthew and Simon to get scared and run back into the house.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some likeable characters.
  2. The scene where the family had the baby isn’t too bad.
  3. Some funny moments here and there.
