"Dear Contributor: We are returning your stupid story. Give up! You are a terrible writer. Why do you bother us? We wouldn't use one of your stories if you paid us. Drop dead! Never send us another story! Get lost! Signed, the Editors."
Snoopy reading his letter from the publishing company where he sent his story to, only to realize that his story had bombed, in "Snoopy the Musical".

These are movies that failed miserably during their box office showings for one reason or another. At the very least, not many people were actually scammed to see these movies in theaters.

NOTE: A made-for-television film, direct-to-video film or a direct-to-streaming film cannot, by definition be a box office bomb. Also, just because a movie made only slightly more than its budget doesn't mean that it broke even, as some of the revenue goes to the theater and the other goes to the company. Note however that marketing costs are undisclosed and are separate from production budget.

These can (and are) also commonly referred to as box-office failures or box-office flops or box-office turkeys.

Beginning in 2020, some box office bombs were released to streaming.

Ever wondered why many films got performed so badly at the box office and lose money, because of the either troubled production, terrible marketing or the fact that audiences would rather watch other films in theatres?
