Casper is a 1995 live action/computer-animated fantasy comedy drama film directed by Brad Silberling.

Bad Qualities

  1. The plot doesn’t follow the source material very well. Casper just becomes a ghost because... of pneumonia. On that topic, the storyline is unfocused.
  2. The Ghostly Trio makes unfunny and stupid puns.
  3. The source material is too dark for its target audience.
  4. The concept of death was executed poorly.
  5. Some of the characters are annoying.
  6. The script was uninspired.
  7. It tries with pathetic attempts to bring Casper the Friendly Ghost to life.
  8. The direct to video prequels are even worse.
  9. It has that random cliche where an animated character is in a live action world.
  10. Despite the CGI animation on the ghosts being great for the time, it has not aged well.
  11. The first prequel is somewhat even worse than this.
  12. Unfunny and weak humor, such as the scene where a character finds that his hand is on fire and dosen't even scream but instead pretends to be scared and slowly pats it out. It also has Casper saying "There's a girl on my bed...yes!" "You know that tingly feeling when your foot falls asleep? I think I'm made of that." and "Cat...could I keep you?"

Good Qualities

  1. The computer animation on the ghosts looks great, even for the time it was released. Even better, this iteration of Casper became the first main protagonist to be computer-animated.
  2. Decent acting towards Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci.
  3. Good voice acting for the ghosts.
  4. Beautiful soundtrack by the late James Horner, who composed Bicentennial Man and Titanic.
  5. The sets look amazing.
  6. Casper's backstory was a really sad scene.
    • On that topic, the ending was actually really touching.
  7. Some funny moments here and there.
  8. Some Casper fans might enjoy this movie.
  9. Dan Aykroyd makes a somewhat amusing cameo as Ray Stantz from Ghostbusters and Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci.
  10. At least we learn how Casper became a ghost in the first place.
