Britannic is a 2000 spy film, directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith. it was based on a real story 1916 sinking of the HMHS Britannic.

Plot

In 1916, A British female spy is ordered to monitor suspected German saboteurs on board the Titanic's sister ship, the Britannic, during World War I. During the voyage, she becomes infatuated with the ship's chaplain, but is shocked to discover that he is one of the German agents she is supposed to be tracking.

Bad Qualities

  1. Not only is it a rip-off of James Cameron's Titanic, but Chaplain Reynolds and Vera Campbell are also rip-offs of Jack and Rose from Titanic.
  2. Mediocre acting.
  3. Inaccuracies with real life:
    • Reynolds bombs Britannic's port side bow in the film, but in reality the ship was hit by a naval mine.
    • Britannic also hit the mine on the starboard side and not the port.
    • The bombing also seems to happen in the early morning hours when it is still dark, when in reality, the ship hit the mine at around 8:12 am, were it would have been in broad daylight.
    • Two lifeboats were in reality destroyed by the propellers of the ship, but it occurred on the port side of the ship, not starboard.
    • The ship sinks with no list to the side, and once the water reaches the bridge, the ship immediately rolls over to its side before sinking into the sea. In realty, the sinking of the Britannic was very different.
    • Also two holes on opposite sides of the ship would not cause the ship to tip over to its side.
    • The HMS Victoria from the film wasn't even real. In real life, it was actually the HMS Scourge that rescued the survivors of the Britannic.
  4. Very bad ending.
  5. Clichéd plot.

Good Qualities

  1. CGI effects were not that bad. even in 2000 standards.
  2. Decent soundtrack.
  3. At least the creatures follows the sinking of the Britannic.

Reception

The films holds a 5.2/10 on IMDB.

Trivia
