Bigger Fatter Liar
|
Bigger Fatter Liar is a stand-alone sequel to the 2002 family comedy Big Fat Liar. The film titled Bigger Fatter Liar was written by David H. Steinberg, stars Barry Bostwick as Larry Wolf, Lola Smith as Becca, and Ricky Garcia as Kevin Shepherd, and was released exclusively on DVD on April 18, 2017.
Plot
Kevin Shepherd (Garcia), a slacker student who lies a lot has to make up for all the lying he has done in the past by being more obedient and decides to make a video game code paper after eventually getting caught by his Social Studies teacher for lying. But, before he can get bring it to school, he hitches a ride in a limo with a greedy video game developer named Larry Wolf (Bostwick) and accidentally leaves it in the limo. Larry steals Kevin's video game idea and is about to greenlight Kevin's project after it's finished. Kevin has to go to Summer school after neglecting to turn in his paper and for being irresponsible (even though Kevin was actually being responsible and telling the truth). So, Kevin has to go to San Francisco with his friend Becca (Lola Smith) and get his game idea back from Larry to prevent him from making his stolen video game be sold to the public.
Why It Sucks
- The film is basically a rehash of the original film, except for minor changes, more specifically having our protagonist named Kevin Shepherd instead of Jason and our antagonist named Larry Wolf instead of Marty.
- The first film didn't have a sequel based ending.
- Weak storyline.
- Kevin is snarky, unlike Jason who had charm, a sense of humor and had a better personality.
- The technology of the game looks poorly done and outdated.
- Coloring Marty Wolf's skin with blue dye and making his hair orange in the original was actually amusing, but making Larry's skin white and his hair purple was lame and pointless.
- This so-called "sequel" doesn't have the same charm as the original film had.
- The film totally ignores the events of the first film.
- Shawn Levy, the director of the original film didn't even plan on making a sequel and neither did Dan Scheneider, the writer of the first film.
- False advertising: During the bloopers, (which were arguably more pointless than the rest of the film) a clapboard reads Big Fat Liar 2, but it’s a sequel in name only since the original cast and crew members weren't involved with the film.
- The supporting characters are pointless as well. Even Larry is a pointless character, despite him being evil. Larry is not a convincing villain and is more irritating than Marty who actually had charisma and was funny in the first film.
- A majority of the jokes are awkward and are nonsensical.
- Although putting ghost peppers in Larry's energy drink was an act of revenge, it was an over-the-edge act since ghost peppers can send people to the hospital, which is exactly what happened to Larry. The peppers could've killed Larry as well.
- Our main protagonists make pointless text messages and mess up Larry's financial system.
- The ending makes no sense and is tiresome to sit through.
- The idea of Larry becoming a mime near the end after his company went out of business was a degrading and pointless comeuppance while having Marty become a clown after his company went out of business actually made sense and was more amusing.
- Pointless reason why Kevin lies. Kevin told lies after his mother died.
- Countless plot distractions including a scene where it’s revealed that Larry is a Brony.
- The film was released fifteen years after the first film, so the idea for this film was basically stale by the time it was released.
Reception
As of right now, Bigger Fatter Liar doesn't hold a critic score or consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. But, the audience score is currently 23% and has a 4.0 out of 10 on IMDb.
